Sweet Tea Project, part two
Wednesday, June 28, 2006
Ok, so did I create a firestorm or what? No, probably not, but I'm going to pretend I did for dramatic purposes.

Several of you readers have weighed in, and I thank you. And to that one person who no longer believes I'm her soulmate because of sweet tea, well . . . um...yeah.

For anyone that doesn't know the difference between simply putting sugar in your iced tea and putting sugar in it while the tea is still hot, .tif has graciously provided an answer in the previous blog's comment section. I'll repeat it here for you:
"Sugar doesn't disolve in cold liquid and sweet tea is meant to be (and should be) served ice cold. Especially on hot summer days. Sugar melts only into hot liquids. So to make sweet tea properly you must add the sugar to the tea right after brewing. Otherwise if you do it yourself, you end up with sugar just sitting at the bottom of you glass since restaurants serve it cold with ice. And of course Sweet N Low, Splenda, Equal, and etc melt in cold liquid but they just don't taste the same as sugar."

(By the way, it's .tif's birthday today; please wish her a well one.)

Here are some recipes for making your own sweet tea.

And here's the list, with new additions in bold:

Alligator Cafe (Dallas): 4 stars
Golden Chick (various metroplex locations): 3 stars
Jason's Deli (various metroplex locations): 2 stars
Church's Chicken (various metroplex locations): 2.5 stars

Man you rule, here's what I gotsta say. I went to Quizno's for lunch and Taco Delite for sweet tea. And there is a huge difference between sweet tea and sweetening tea. You see, sweet tea is prepared hot and uses real sugar making it awesome, like my granny v's sweet, sweet, iced tea i'd enjoy in Charleston, SC. Where as tea you have to sweeten with sugar substitutes is for cocksuckers cuz it tastes like piss and cancer. Also, causes cancer in rodents.

The folks over at Dallasfood.org have ongoing discussions about the best BBQ and a new feature on the best Chicken Fried Steak in Dallas.

Maybe you can enlist them in your quest for sweetened swill - yech and good luck.

Regardless of your sweet tea science, I still think you're a sweet tea-drinking monster.

But I still respect you as a person.

I don't know what's up with the new name - I came across it and liked it. What do you think?

Is it sacriligious to make sweet tea by just adding a goodly amount of suger to a jug of "sun tea" while it's brewing? You know you can make "sun tea" by just letting it sit on the counter on a warm day -- it doesn't get bitter that way.

Now I'm just sayin', if you stir it long and hard enough, sugar will dissolve in cold tea. Or in iced coffee. Hardly seems worth the effort or inevitable liquid slopping all over the table, but a person's got to do what the beverage gods command.
